Prediction: Everton vs Chelsea

As for the visitors, bouncing back from their shock defeat against London rivals West Ham last weekend to clinch a 2-1 win over Aston Villa in West London on Wednesday night, Frank Lampard will be desperate for his side to fully find their early season momentum. Still in a battle to secure a spot in the knockout stage of this year s Champions League, the former England midfielder finds his side open the weekend with a five-point buffer from losing their top-four status. Despite picking up three points at Stamford Bridge in midweek, there is no doubt that the former Premier League champions have continued to shine while outside of the capital. Aside from a close-fought 2-1 defeat away at the Etihad last month, Chelsea are unbeaten in their other eight matches on the road. If the Royal Bl…

Kimmich ´perfect´ for Barcelona, says Xavi

Barcelona legend Xavi believes Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich would fit perfectly at Camp Nou.

The versatile 23-year-old has established himself as first-choice right-back at Bayern since moving from RB Leipzig in 2015, helping ease the impact of Phillip Lahm s retirement in 2017.

Like Lahm, Kimmich can operate at full-back and in midfield, roles he grew into under the guidance of Pep Guardiola.

Kimmich has started all 17 of Bayern s Bundesliga matches this season and has been an ever-present in their progression to the Champions League knockout stages.

His importance to Bayern means they would be unlikely to sell, but Xavi says Kimmich would be a great acquisition for his former club Barca.

Klopp lauds Liverpool for beating the best

Jurgen Klopp insisted his Liverpool side overcame the best team in the world after second-half goals from Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino sealed an authoritative Champions League quarter-final win against Manchester City.

Needing a considerable feat of escapology following last week s 3-0 first-leg defeat at Anfield, City led inside two minutes through Gabriel Jesus as the thunderstorm Klopp foresaw in his pre-match news conference came to pass.

Bernardo Silva hit the post and Leroy Sane had a goal incorrectly ruled out for offside but Liverpool held out, leaving Salah and Firmino to clinically punish a flagging City after the break.

That did not mean Klopp was about to waver in his admiration of old adversary Pep Guardiola and his side, who have now suffered t…

Messi has every right in the world to be angry with Abidal – Rivaldo

Lionel Messi has every right in the world to be angry with Eric Abidal, according to former Barcelona star Rivaldo.

Tensions are running high at Camp Nou following a disappointing week of results on the pitch and an apparent dispute between the club captain and the first-team technical secretary.

Messi used a social media post to criticise Abidal after he accused some Barca players of downing tools during Ernesto Valverde s final weeks as head coach.

Messi felt Abidal, a former team-mate at Barca, was dirtying the squad by making generalised comments about their efforts without naming any specific players.

The issue has led to suggestions Messi could exercise an option to have his Barca contract cancelled at the end of the season in order to leave on a f…

Southgate puzzled by Hungarian children booing England players for taking the knee

Gareth Southgate was perplexed as to why Hungarian children booed England players when they took the knee before the Three Lions shock Nations League defeat on Saturday.

Dominik Szoboszlai s second-half penalty gave Hungary a shock 1-0 victory at the Puskas Arena.

The League A Group 3 game was supposed to be played behind closed doors as punishment for racist behaviour in the same stadium during Euro 2020 last year.

Yet children were allowed to attend the game and a crowd of 35,000 watched England s record 22-game unbeaten run come to an end in Budapest.

There were boos when England players took the knee prior to kick-off in the same stadium where some of Southgate s players were subjected to racist abuse during a World Cup qualifier in September.
