Silvia Neid was given the perfect send-off as her Germany side beat Sweden 2-1 to claim gold in the women s football final at Rio 2016.
Neid, who is standing down after 11 years in charge, has enjoyed much success as a player and coach during her illustrious career, but an Olympic triumph had previously proved elusive.
However, a fine strike from Dzsenifer Marozsan and Linda Sembrant s comical own goal ensured Germany were deservedly crowned champions for the first time at the Maracana on Friday, with Stina Blackstenius response ultimately in vain for Sweden.
After leading the United States to Olympic glory in 2008 and 2012, Sweden coach Pia Sundhage was aiming to secure another gold with the country of her birth.

Spain are hoping to continue undoing their underachievements of the past as they aim to get past Russia in Thursday s Euro 2008 semi-final.
The term perrenial underachievers has become so synonymous with Spain that it seemed to have become a permanent prefix and the name Spain without out it looks naked.
But the talented Iberians went some way to shedding that unwanted tag in the quarter-finals with their nervy penalty shoot-out victory over Italy.
Not only was it their first ever victory over the Italians in a major tournament but it was also the first time they progressed beyond the last eight of a competition since 1984.
And midfield playmaker Xavi of Barcelona believes that this team is finally ready to put that hoodoo to bed once and for all.
A few months ago, Italian football appeared to be in a desperate position.
The national team had missed out on World Cup qualification for the first time in 60 years and, although Napoli had started the Serie A season well, most expected Juventus to serenely progress to another Scudetto.
Now, in May, the situation looks an awful lot brighter, even if Juve did emerge victorious once again.
Despite Napoli s late slip-ups they are one of world football s most thrilling sides, Italy has the most exciting league among Europe s elite, Roma humiliated Barcelona in the Champions League the list goes on.
Things are even looking up for the Azzurri, with Roberto Mancini set to take charge following his departure from Zenit St Petersburg.

Liverpool signed Jordan Henderson from Sunderland on this day in 2011.
The deal for the 20-year-old England midfielder was reported to be worth £16million.
“Obviously it’s hard to leave your local club. I’m a Sunderland lad, I’ve supported them all my life,” Henderson told the Liverpool website.

We’ll get a little of both in Florida this week, as the Indianapolis Colts head on the road to face the Jacksonville Jaguars. Indy tripped out of the gates to plant its lips firmly on its sister, with a tie against lowly Houston a week ago.
